Wendy Halo “Compromise”

Sometimes we say things we don’t mean to.

Sometimes we look for a fight even when we’d be much better off just enjoying the moment, appreciating that we are happy, loved and protected.

To me, this is what Wendy Halo’s latest song is about. Bearing the tell-tale title of “Compromise”, the smooth, wonderfully melodic track talks about love, though not necessarily the pretty part of it. Halo’s hauntingly beautiful voice guides us through a ‘typical night’ of fighting with her partner and then confesses to us how bad this makes her feel, how much better it would be if they could both just compromise.

Indeed, a bit of a contrast from her previous “High Life” which was all about being full of attitude and never taking less than you deserve (otherwise, a very good life motto, though often the cause of trouble in relationships).

Halo’s electrifying “Compromise” is the perfect tune for a quiet night in. It’s  a great song for wallowing and waiting by the phone, hoping your significant other will call. It’s also a great song to listen to with your partner, as it has a very romantic vibe to it. What can I say, it’s versatile that way and that’s one of the things we love most about it.

Having listened to the track several times, I still don’t think I  could pinpoint exactly who it reminds me of… perhaps Tina Turner. But then, I think that if you could easily tell who influenced it, then it wouldn’t be so much a good song as a faithful copy of an already existing great song. And we’re not looking for that, are we?

The caliber of Wendy Halo’s voice, as well as her exquisite songwriting, has a mystical aspect to it. Undoubtedly, it was influenced by several great artists – since Halo was raised in a long line of gospel singers – but she somehow managed to take good aspects and make them into something unique, something her own.

But perhaps my favorite aspect of Halo’s artistic persona is the fact that it obviously stems from passion. Having abandoned a promising corporate management position in the heart of London, she moved to Marbella, Spain, to pursue her lifelong passion of singing. She sacrificed for her music and that’s vital for any real artist.

I’m sure there are many great, memorable tracks in Halo’s future, so make sure to follow her on Twitter, Instagram or Spotify so as not to miss any of her work.
