NRBARZ ‘T.S.I.R. Album’

Ricardo Neeley, professionally known as NRBARZ (formerly known as Noble Barz), is a hip-hop
artist from the Bahamas. NRBARZ was born on August 9th, some years in the 1900s. He was
born and raised in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Island of New Providence. NR has
been consistent in the hip-hop scene over the years and has crafted a unique style for himself.
For NRBARZ, the aim is to deliver a message to the world through hip-hop.
For NR, growing up wasn’t exactly easy as it came with its struggles and challenges, especially
being raised by a single mother. His mom played both the roles of a father and a mother – in his
own words, “she disciplined him like a father and gave him the love of a mother.” However,
NRBARZ did not allow this challenge to hinder his growth into adulthood as he learned quite
early to cope with that which he had not and be thankful for that which he has. His mom showed
him all the love and care he could get from two parents and also created a solid spiritual
foundation for him to metamorphose into adulthood, which somehow reflects in his artistry
today.

He fell in love with music at quite a tender age; he recalls his earliest musical encounters and
influences being his family, as they always filled their household with music and records. As a
youth, he developed a powerful love for music, and especially for the songs his mother played in
the house. According to NR, in their household, you could hardly tell which days are Saturdays
and which periods are holidays as his mother would play music all the time at home – making
every day seem like a weekend or holiday.
She would play records on the home sound system from her vast collection. She would also
play cassette tapes, and much later in the years, she started playing CDs. He recalls how he
would tune in with his mom to her favorite radio shows during house cleaning and cooking
sessions. She would play songs from musicians like Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Ray Goodman &
Brown, Third World, Maxine Weldon, Anita Baker, The Winans, James Cleveland, Hillsong
Worship, and many other musicians, including some local acts. This contributed a great deal to
the ignition of NR’s musical passion.
NR’s earliest encounter with hip-hop was through TV stations like the B.E. T, Rap City, and
many other TV stations and shows from the US and Canada. From being just a hip-hop fan, he
metamorphosed into being a hip-hop artist and creator after listening to the likes of Common, A
Tribe Called Quest, and Nas. The song “Respiration” by Blackstar unleashed NR’s desire to
write hooks, rhymes, and free-verses.
For NRBARZ, tapping inspiration from the happenings around his environment and the world at
large remains a major and typical creative process. He strives to tell a relatable story with his
music; however, these stories are not limited to the lyrics as he also tells these stories musically
with his instrumentals.
NR has been involved in local compilation projects which include Fam Records Entertainment’s
“We Are Family,” Dunamus Soundz’s “The New Breed” and the Marlin Award Nominated track
“The Race.” He has also been featured on the “Dunamus Ball” LP under the moniker “Delyricks’
featuring Miff and Shan in the early stages. Since the release of his freshman solo CD titled the
“Symphonic Signatures” under his former moniker “Barz Noble,” the CD has garnered six
nominations from The Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards and notable mentions on both
international and local media outlets.
To keep up the momentum, his second album “S.C.O.A. P” (Soul Chapters Of A Poetic) followed
up by winning the Akademia Music Award for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Music Video for the song
“Rainset.” Under his former moniker Noble Barz, he released his third solo offering “T.S.I.R” and
will continue to record both solo and collaborative for future follow-ups under the new moniker
NRBARZ. He describes his music as insightful and poetic and he also points out the jazz and
soul influences in his sounds which can be felt more on the “Soul Chapters of A Poetic” album
and progress to a broader range of genres and sounds on “T.S.I.R.”(The Struggle Is Real)
project. As NRBARZ puts it there is always more music inside of you to work on as the journey continues.
