Get to know Julian Keyz.

We got in touch with artist Julian Keyz for a little Q&A. We wanted to introduce you all to Julian Keyz before the release of ‘2AM’. We got to hear it exclusively and we want to leak it so bad; we love music to much to do that. Plus; anything good is worth waiting for. 1. Where are you from? 

I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. Chicago contributed so much towards the foundation of who I am, but I also give Los Angeles, CA a lot of credit in my development. I started my musical journey at the age of 8, but became a professional musician at 10. This gave me the opportunity to travel / perform frequently domestically. I have been on the go since the age of 13. I was in LA for a long period starting around age 15 and became a full-time resident around age 17. I’ll be 28 on November 5, 2021. So Chicago established my foundation, but I feel like I became a man in LA.

2. How has your city influenced your sound?

Chicago influenced my sound because it gave me SOUL in my music. A rawness that’s only truly expressed by those who have experienced the culture. LA, however, has given me all of the experiences. My youth in Chicago gave me a lot to FEEL, but LA gave me a lot to evaluate and express. 

3. What instruments do you play?

I primarily play keys… hence the name Julian Keyz. 

4. What’s your best performance?

I would always consider my last performance my best. 

5. What is your worst performance?

When I was a freshman in high school I performed for Dwyane Wade’s charity event in downtown Chicago. That definitely had to be my worst performance. 

The day before the show I got into a fight at school and was suspended. I messed up my hand and couldn’t really move it. In addition, I switched up the routine at the last minute and I wasn’t really prepared. It was horrible. But… ya live and ya learn. 

6. Tell us about your newest single. 

My newest single is entitled “2AM”. I actually wrote the song back in 2019. I was in my feels and ended up writing the song at 1:30AM. Took me exactly 30 mins to write and I concluded at 2AM. 

It’s a combination of thoughts based on relationships, career, habits and emotional issues. It’s an open monologue of a young 20 something year old feeling the pressures of life and going through changes. It’s relatable because it’s the essence of human growth and evolution. 

In the grand scene of things now, with this new project, it’s placed with a few other tracks to tell a complete story. Stay tuned for the release. 

7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 

In 5 years I see myself as a successful and wealthy entertainer / entrepreneur. I’ll be 33 at that time. That’s a golden age. I feel like I’ll be even doper than I am now in all aspects of life. I’m looking forward to the person I’ll be and how I can further impact the world. 

8. Does your family support your musical journey? 

My family and friends are amazing. I’ve always had the best support. Special S/O to my mom because that’s my backbone. She’s been my #1 fan and supporter before anyone. That has helped me a lot. I’m very fortunate to have her. 

9. Who do you want to collaborate with? 

I want to collaborate with dope people who are going to push me to better myself. There’s no specific name. I get inspiration from the smallest stuff. I like being around people that are 100 x’s better than me. It fuels me and pushes me. I’m very competitive. 

10. Any new projects you are working on that you want to share?

I’m a Scorpio, I’m usually working on 20 million things. 

I am excited, however, to announce I’ll be opening up a music school in Henderson, NV January 2022. Stay tuned for more information on that.
