As the summer holidays are finally coming to a close, there is still some time left for some catchy and extremely relatable bops to drop, and this is the case of “Finger painting.” This song is a brand new collaborative track between Apex Frazier and Coop. They joined forces to create a unique piece, highlighting their creative chemistry, as well as their ability and willingness to take their music to the very next level. The story starts from the title. “Finger Painting” as an action is exceptionally creative: the idea of creating a piece of art using nothing but your own two hands is something that makes you feel way more connected to what you are doing.
It’s more than just using a brush: it’s about experiencing with your own two hands, giving the art a more personal meaning. Staying true to the title, this is precisely what Apex Frazier and Coop are doing on the fantastic “Finger Painting.” The production is so textural, and every sound feels like a colour, forming a kaleidoscopic canvas of beats, lyrics, soundscapes, and melodies that feels sophisticated yet lush and immersive at the same time. Something extraordinary about everything comes together so seamlessly, with a slightly lo-fi sound that makes the beat feel warmer and more reflective at the same time, but no less catchy. The old-school feel of the production might remind rap fans of legendary artists such as Erik B & Rakim and A Tribe Called Quest or Wu-Tang Clan. However, the lyrics have a very upfront sound that has a lot of meaning, showcasing the rappers’ penchant for storytelling and sharing something special with their audience. The artwork also deserves a special mention, as it is just as colourful as the song’s production, giving the audience an immediate taste of the immediacy and spontaneity that they can indeed expect to find in this fantastic song.
This release comes highly recommended if you are a fan of Christian rap and hip-hop with a little more substance than the usual lyrical and instrumental cliches!
