Chicago rapper King Melik’s track “Up My Savage” becomes the backdrop for a viral AAU dunk by Meyoh Swansey, drawing NBA attention and fueling summer basketball hype.
In a moment that perfectly blended sports and sound, King Melik’s “Up My Savage” just became the unofficial anthem of this summer’s AAU season.
The track is the backdrop to a now-viral clip featuring Meyoh Swansey, the explosive guard from Washington Playground, posterizing a defender with a two-handed slam during an AAU game in Indianapolis — all while Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton reacts courtside with an “on your head” gesture. The clip has since taken over TikTok and Instagram reels, syncing Swansey’s savage energy with Melik’s bold, no-feature single from his new EP, Chamber of Emotions.
Swansey, fresh off a historic season at Thornton Township High School alongside Illinois Mr. Basketball Morez Johnson Jr., averaged 12.4 PPG while shooting 50% from three. Coached by Illinois legend Tai Streets, Swansey earned All-State Honorable Mention, scored over 1,000 career points, and secured MVP honors at the O’Fallon Shootout.
Now, with Melik’s “Up My Savage” scoring his breakout moment, Meyoh’s making noise on and off the court — and King Melik’s sound is riding shotgun.
