Anna Aarons is a London based singer and writer who specialises in commercial offerings that stray between soul and pop. Anna began her music career busking on the London Underground. She has had multiple sell-out shows at Pizza Express Live performing her tribute to Amy Winehouse and most recently made the Quarter Finals of the Isle of Wight New Blood Competition.
‘Since You Went Away’ is a carefully crafted track that creates a carefree vibe, and Anna’s latest single is a true feel-good anthem. Accompanied by chirping birds, the song features a sample of Anna’s grandmother singing the classic jazz standard that the release is derived from. The lyrical content depicts the grief and aftermath of her late grandmother’s passing disguised behind up-beat rhythms. Following her recent release ‘Her’, Anna’s single is joyous and jovial from start to finish, ascending into a celebratory outro, and is a true triumph of writing.
Discussing the release, Anna Aarons discusses:
“’Since You Went Away’ is inspired by an Amy Winehouse track from her first album Frank, ‘October Song’, which is a version of Sarah Vaughan’s ‘Lullaby of Birdland’. As soon as we discovered an old recording of my late grandmother singing the Sarah Vaughan song ‘Passing Strangers’, I knew I had to make something of it. It’s amazing to be able to have my late grandmother, who I never met, sing on one of my tracks with me! My late Grandpa’s whistle is right at the end, too. ‘Since You Went Away’ follows singles ‘Words’ and ‘Her’, all depicting female family influences in my life, with artwork created by contemporary artist Sarah Beth, my little sister.”
