Step Into the Sonic Universe of Neokosmos: An Interview with Aeon

In an era where music and visuals increasingly blend into immersive experiences, few artists embody this fusion as completely as Neokosmos, the creative project of Montréal-based multi-instrumentalist and visual visionary Aeon (aka Emmanuel Pronovost). What began in 2010 as an outlet to merge his multifaceted talents has since evolved into a rich, self-sustained universe—where sound, light, image, and performance collide in otherworldly harmony.

At the heart of Neokosmos lies a DIY ethos sharpened by 15 years of obsessive creativity, resulting in a body of work that spans ethereal electronic compositions, intricate live performances, and mesmerizing visual storytelling. Aeon’s current “Full Moon Series”—a bold undertaking to release a new single and video each full moon—is a testament to both his discipline and his deep emotional connection to the music he creates.

We sat down with Aeon to delve into the mind behind Neokosmos, exploring the philosophy, process, and cosmic ambition that drives his sonic voyages. From his cinematic latest single “Aeon ::: THX-2018” to the dazzling stagecraft of his upcoming Montreal live show, Aeon invites us into a universe built entirely on vision, resilience, and unrelenting passion.

You recently released your first singles 14 years after starting to work on this project, can you talk about that ?

-Yeah, it’s been quite the sinuous road to get here ! I never thought that it would take that long, but the complexity of the project combined with my tendency for perfectionism, and you know, life throwing curve balls at me along the way… all that ended up taking me 14 years before a release… but here we are now, finally !

It’s been an amazing kick-off though. You recently released 6 singles and music videos, one per month, correct ?

-Exactly. I wanted to showcase the project and its different facets, so I embarked on what I called the Full Moon Series, where I release a single with its videoclip every full Moon for 6 months. They all explore different avenues in terms of sound, and the clips show different sides of the project.

I can imagine that such a schedule of releases requires a lot of preparation. How long in advance did you have to prepare in order to make it happen ?

-So, this is kind of crazy, but a big part of the work for these clips was made during the month before each release. We did have some material filmed before starting, but a lot of it was done during this period, and also the final mixing of the songs, mastering, and the video editing was all done within the month that preceded each release. So it’s been quite an insane run for me, as I do a lot of these things myself.

It must have been intense, why impose such deadlines and workloads on yourself ?

-I have been wanting to give birth to this project for so long, I needed things to move forward and not only a little bit. I needed to make a big leap, and the years of preparation allowed me to be in this position where I felt confident I could accomplish such a challenge. I’m so happy it went well, but it was VERY intense at times, and let’s just say that sleep was not always abundant hahaha

Any specific reason to release on full Moons ?

-Well, it actually started with me simply choosing when to release my first single, Spectre, and I had the idea of releasing it on a full Moon. Soon after, the concept of releasing other singles every full Moon came to me, and I just fell in love with the idea. It had the benefit of making things move at just the pace I felt was feasible, and it also forced me to adhere to a strict deadline schedule, which really helps me let go of the ncessant perfectionism I tend to be stricken with.

Do you intend on releasing more ?

-I recently felt that now was the time to go dark for a bit and focus on finishing my first album. I have put out six singles, it’s a major breakthrough for me, but making these clips is very time-consuming, so I will now spend the next months in the studio to finish the first Neokosmos album. I am aiming for an August release. The exact date is yet to be determined.

From what I have heard so far, you seem to explore many different genres, is your sound always going to be within electronic music ?

-So, there is actually an important distinction I need to make here. Neokosmos is a very diverse project that will house at least two incarnations. The first one, the one under which I published these first singles so far, consists of electronic music performed on keyboards and electronic percussions by myself only. The second one is a full band, and has strong rock and metal influences. Within that format, I will actually be playing the guitar, singing and playing some acoustic percussions, and we’ll have a full band on stage. In both cases I write and arrange the music, and synthesizers are omnipresent, but the two formats will be quite different all in all. When can we expect to see this full-band version presented ?

-We are aiming for 2026 to release the first tracks and likely to play the first show as a band also. I will probably alternate between the two formats during the next years. I have a lot of music that I want to put out. It accumulated over the years, as I have always composed at a steady rate. I have many albums cued up, and I can’t wait to share it all, but I do need to take the time it all requires to do these songs justice !

Well, we’ll be keeping a close eye on what’s to come ! What’s the best way to follow your work ?

-I am releasing the music videos on Youtube (@neokosmos) and I do post a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff and whatnot on social media

(Instagram and Facebook mainly), but you can also always go to neokosmos.com for a repertoire of the releases. I intend on making the site a growing hub, with a lot more content as well as merch and other fun things in the coming future.
