Is Lord Rokko the next King of Afropop? The Birmingham-based singer, rapper, producer, and director is making a bold statement with his summer hit Bebezinha. Sampling Wayne Wonder’s No Letting Go, Rokko infuses the track with a unique Afro-Latino twist, blending smooth R&B vocals with bachata grooves and Afrobeats rhythms. His ability to effortlessly switch between English, Portuguese, and Igbo makes the song a true cultural fusion.
Visually, Bebezinha is just as impressive. Directed by Rokko himself, the music video tells the story of a loverboy unlocking the wild side of a reserved young woman. His impeccable fashion sense and keen eye for detail shine through, making this one of his most polished releases yet. Out of the six music videos he dropped in 2024, Bebezinha has received the most attention, even earning national radio play on BBC 1Xtra, thanks to support from Theo Johnson.
Rokko’s creative momentum doesn’t stop there. He followed up with Buss A Move, a five-minute short film that further highlights his storytelling and directing skills. Then came Que Pasa, an explosive salsa drill track where he sings in Portuguese and raps in English, pushing genre boundaries even further. With his ability to innovate and captivate across multiple mediums, Lord Rokko is proving he’s not just an artist to watch; but an artist to remember.
