Josh Christina “Let’s Get Woke”

It’s pretty easy to get carried away in the negativity that 2020 has unexpectedly showered the world with, but sometimes you just need to dance it out and forget about everything for a second. Need some ideas? Consider Josh Christina’s single “Let’s Get Woke”, ridden with all the energy you’ll need to get on your feet and live in the moment for 3 minutes and 29 seconds.

Contrary to what the song title may seem to allude to, “Let’s Get Woke” isn’t actually a call to action, unless of course that action is to “turn it up, turn it on, rock it like we bad to the bone”. Channeling some major Johnny B. Goode vibes, Christina uses his insane piano chops and expressive charisma to invite the audience to let loose and bask in the lively sound of 50’s era rock & roll. Complete with mile-long glissandos and striking full-band hits, “Let’s Get Woke” comes with the same elements you’ll find in the songs of some of Josh Christina’s musical heroes.

Coming from a family of musicians, Christina’s own musical journey launched at the tender age of seven, when he discovered Elvis Presley. By the time he was 10 years old, he had organized a musical act that had the opportunity to regularly perform at venues around his hometown of Baltimore. His knack for the keys came five years later when he became fascinated by the style of Jerry Lee Lewis after seeing him portrayed in the Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet. “While I bought tickets out of my love for Elvis, I remember being blown away by the styling’s of Jerry Lee Lewis… He had such flare. He redefined the piano for me. While I had a few lessons as a kid, it actually bored me. However when the actor playing Jerry Lee kicked out the stool, jumped on the piano, played with his feet…I was sold!. So I gave piano a second chance and, with that, adopted Jerry Lee’s entertainment style.” Now here we are, two albums, one EP, and three singles later, and Josh Christina is continuing to make waves in the music industry with his own unique style that pays homage to those music legends.
